Why SignupGadget?
Many sign-up tools are built around accounts and email addresses: the organizer signs up, people who join hand over an address, and the reminders (and often the ads) follow. We built SignupGadget because coordinating a potluck shouldn’t require a privacy trade-off. Nobody makes an account, nobody gives an email address, and there are no ads on event pages.
SignupGadget vs. SignUpGenius
SignUpGenius is one of the best-known sign-up tools, so it’s the comparison people ask about. Here’s how its free plan compares, based on its own help center and price list (checked October 2026). Numbers in brackets link to the source.
| Feature | SignupGadget | SignUpGenius free plan |
|---|---|---|
| Account needed to make a sign-up | No — you get a private organizer link | Yes [1] |
| Account needed to sign up | No | No, unless the organizer turns on “Require Accounts” [2][3] |
| Email address from participants | Never asked | Name and email address by default [3] |
| Emails sent to participants | None — we don’t have any addresses | Confirmation and notification emails, which can carry ads [4] |
| Ads on the sign-up page | None on event pages | Ads unless the organizer assigns an Ad-Free license, which comes with paid plans [5] |
| Hide names from other participants | Yes, free | Yes [6] |
| Waitlist | Free | Gold plan [7] |
| Price | Free — every feature | Free plan; paid plans from $11.99 to $59.99 a month (less billed yearly); Enterprise by quote [8] |

When SignUpGenius may be the better fit
It has been around for years and does things we deliberately don’t. If you need any of these, it may be the right tool:
- Collecting payments (U.S. organizers only; processing fees apply) [11]
- Messages from the tool — confirmation and notification emails, plus text messages on paid plans [4][10]
- Custom questions for each person who signs up (paid plans) [9]
- Organization features such as member groups, plus extra administrators on paid plans [8][10]
If you want a sheet people can fill in with nothing but a name — and no inbox to manage afterwards — that’s what SignupGadget is for.
Other tools people compare
- SignUp.com — organizers create a free account [12]. Participants don’t need one, but on a shared link they enter an email address or log in with Google or Facebook [13]. Its SignUps show ads unless the organizer pays $9.99 a month ($99.99 a year) to remove them [14].
- Doodle (date polls) — participants don’t need an account. The free plan shows ads, and automated reminders, deadlines and hiding participant details are paid features [15]. SignupGadget’s date polls include a closing date and hidden names for free.
- Meal Train — volunteers need an account to book a date [16], and the free page takes one volunteer per day [17]. On our meal trains, helpers just type a name.
- Elfster (Secret Santa) — everyone needs an Elfster account to RSVP to a gift exchange [18].
- DrawNames (Secret Santa) — no registration required, and it says it shows no ads [19]. It focuses on gift exchanges; SignupGadget puts Secret Santa next to sign-up sheets, RSVPs, polls and the rest.
What you get with SignupGadget
- No accounts, no email addresses. People join with a name — or anonymously, if you allow it.
- Everyone can fix their own entry. Each person gets a private link to change or cancel what they signed up for, from any device.
- Ten kinds of events. Sign-up sheets, potlucks, volunteer shifts, meal trains, party RSVPs, Secret Santa, task lists, supply lists, raffles and date polls — plus ready-made templates.
- The useful extras, free. Waitlists, hidden names, passwords, calendar files, QR codes, printing and CSV export.
- No ads or tracking cookies on event pages. Our visitor stats are cookieless counts from our own analytics server. See our privacy policy.
